The puppy craze has gone global, and has even spread to Australia, with people now spending thousands of dollars on pet food products.
The Australian Pet Food Association says more than $600 million was spent in the last year on pet foods, and there are now more than 8,000 pet food companies in the country.
The AAFA says the surge in demand is partly due to the fact pet owners are spending a lot more time with their animals, but also because they are spending more on their pets.
A spokesperson for Pet Food Australia said the industry is still struggling to keep up with the demand for pet food, which is now the second biggest item consumers spend on after pet grooming and pet food.
“We’re working very hard to keep it going,” she said.
“Pet food is the most popular item we see for the Australian consumer, but it’s also a big spend.”
So, if we’re going to continue to grow the pet food business, we need to be able to do that on a long-term basis.
“And with our new Pet Nutrition & Nutrition Services, that’s something we’re trying to ramp up on.”
Pet Food Australia spokeswoman Claire Tredy says consumers have spent a lot of money on pet products, and have even started to go to extremes.
“It’s really difficult to keep track of where people are spending money and where it’s going to go and I think that’s really important, because I think a lot people don’t realise that there are some pet food brands that are actually not even in the top 100 in terms of sales,” she says.
“They’re actually really undervalued.”
You know, some people have bought hundreds of dollars worth of food, but there’s not a lot to show for it, so it’s kind of a waste.
“In the UK, Pet Food For The Poor has launched a campaign to raise awareness about pet food shortages and has received support from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
The group said the group had already spent over $100,000 on food and pet supplies, and would spend $200,000 in the coming months.
